L2H – Day 5

September 26

~7 miles, 1000’ loss

This was to be a short day, broken up by a break and resupply at Panamint Valley Resort. We headed down the alluvial fan towards “Bonnie & Clyde”, two old abandoned and rusted cars shot through and decaying at the edge of Panamint Valley. Here we were met by Mike Pless and one of the resort owners who drove us across the valley to the resort where we showered, did laundry and enjoyed a large lunch in the air conditioned restaurant. Late in the afternoon, we were driven back to the spot where we stopped by Mike and Travis. After a welcome dump of cold water on us, we headed across Panamint Valley past “Lake Hill” and up a sandy slope where we camped for the night. Dinner that night was pizza which John had the foresight to order at lunch, and had wrapped into packable packages. I loaded my pack with as much pizza as it would hold, and was pleasantly surprised that it was still fairly warm when eating it due to the heat in the desert!
