~10 miles, 3,600’ gain
After a short rest, we were up well before the sun to get underway with a singular goal of getting higher up out of the valley to nominally cooler temperatures. The combination of our early start and our route’s direction provided for a few stops in shade alongside cliffs as we made our way upward into Trail Canyon. We all struggled in the heat to varying degrees, and we moved slowly uphill all day into Trail Canyon. We reached an old mining camp in the early afternoon where several us took naps after eating lunches; our first full meal since eating lunch at the Crowbar the day before. We then pushed on a mile or so further to another mining camp where we set up camp and did a short hike up another canyon to a spring to reload our water. We were all spent after this day as it was largely two days of hiking in 24 hours in very hot conditions.
